About the Blood Python

Named for their deep red-brown coloring. Short and heavily built — one of the stoutest pythons relative to length. Heavily exploited for the leather trade. Their natural habitat is swampy lowland forest. Surprisingly docile in captivity despite their intimidating appearance. Wild populations have declined significantly due to overharvesting for skins.
