About the Amethystine Python
Also called the scrub python — the largest snake in Australia and New Guinea, reaching over 6 meters. Named for the amethyst-like iridescence of their scales in sunlight. Excellent climbers when young, becoming more terrestrial as they grow. Their heat-sensing pits help them locate warm-blooded prey in the dark. Sometimes confused with the Reticulated Python but have a different head shape.
