About the Timber Rattlesnake
The only rattlesnake found in most of the northeastern US. They gather in large groups (hibernacula) to overwinter. Their rattle frequency matches the frequency that their prey can hear. They can control the amount of venom injected. Historically important — the timber rattlesnake was featured on the Gadsden flag (Dont Tread on Me). Some populations have lost their rattle entirely.
