About the Eastern Diamondback

The largest rattlesnake and heaviest venomous snake in the Americas. Their rattle is made of keratin (same as fingernails) and a new segment is added each time they shed. Can strike at 2.5x their body length in under 0.25 seconds. Their diamond pattern provides excellent camouflage in leaf litter. Use heat-sensing pits between eyes and nostrils to detect warm-blooded prey in total darkness.
