About the Sidewinder
Named for their unique sideways locomotion, leaving J-shaped tracks in sand. This movement reduces contact with hot sand and provides traction on loose dunes. Their horn-like scales above the eyes are distinctive. Can bury themselves in sand with only eyes exposed. Despite being venomous, they are small and bites are rarely fatal. Scientists have studied their movement to improve robot locomotion.
