About the Prairie Rattlesnake
The common rattlesnake of the Great Plains, ranging from southern Canada to northern Mexico. Its greenish to brown body is marked with dark blotches that blend into dry grassland. In the north it spends the winter in communal dens, sometimes sharing them with hundreds of other snakes. Often found near prairie dog towns, where burrows offer shelter and prey. It usually rattles and retreats when approached.
