About the Hundred-pace Viper
A stout pit viper with a sharply upturned snout. Its name comes from the legend that a bitten person can walk only a hundred paces before dying, an exaggeration, but its venom is strongly hemotoxic and dangerous. It lives in forested hills and rocky streams, where its patterned body blends into leaf litter. Females guard their eggs, which is unusual among snakes.
