About the Hump-nosed Viper

A small pit viper with an upturned, humped snout. Once thought to be harmless, it is now known to cause many bites in Sri Lanka, especially among plantation workers. Bites can lead to bleeding problems and kidney failure. There is no specific antivenom, and the Indian polyvalent antivenom does not work against it. It hides in leaf litter, where its brown pattern is well camouflaged.
