About the Dumerils Boa
A heavy-bodied ground boa of southwestern Madagascar, patterned in browns and grays that blend into leaf litter. Named after the French zoologist Andre Marie Constant Dumeril. Malagasy ground boas were once placed in the same genus as the South American Boa constrictor. It ambushes prey from the forest floor. Protected internationally, but bred widely in captivity.
