About the Copperhead
The most common venomous snake bite in the US, but rarely fatal. Their copper-colored head and hourglass pattern provide excellent camouflage in leaf litter. When threatened, they often freeze rather than flee. They use their tail tip (yellow in juveniles) as a lure to attract frogs and lizards. Bites are painful but death is extremely rare — less than 0.01% fatality rate.
