Rinkhals

About the Rinkhals

A cobra-like snake of southern African grasslands whose name means ring neck in Afrikaans, after the pale bands across its throat. Unlike true cobras it gives birth to live young. It can spit venom at the eyes of an attacker. When threatened it often plays dead, rolling onto its back with its mouth open. Its favorite prey is toads.
