About the Racer (North American)
Among the fastest snakes in North America, capable of 13 km/h. Active hunters that chase down prey rather than ambushing. Excellent vision for a snake. When cornered, they vibrate their tail and may strike repeatedly. Juveniles are blotched, adults are solid-colored (blue, green, or brown depending on region). One of the first snakes to become active in spring.
