About the Forest Cobra

The largest true cobra, reaching about 3 m. It is an agile climber and a strong swimmer that often hunts fish and frogs along rivers and lakes. Its glossy black or banded body is common in the forests of West and Central Africa. Bites are relatively rare compared with other cobras, but its neurotoxic venom is potent. Also called the black and white-lipped cobra.
