About the Hognose Snake (Eastern)
Famous for the most elaborate bluff display of any snake. They flatten their neck like a cobra, hiss loudly, strike with closed mouth, and if all else fails, play dead — rolling on their back, tongue hanging out. Their upturned snout is used to dig up buried toads. Rear-fanged with mild venom that only affects their amphibian prey. Completely harmless to humans.
