About the Coachwhip
A long, slender, fast-moving snake whose tail scales look like a braided leather whip. Active by day, it hunts by sight, often raising its head above the grass to look for prey. One of the fastest snakes in North America. Folklore claims it chases people and whips them with its tail, but this is a myth. It bites readily if handled but is harmless.
